Bridge Fire: Wildfire grew ten times in a day, thousands evacuated

The fire has grown tenfold in a day. It has forced about 10,000 people to evacuate and burned at least 33 homes and six cabins.

LOS ANGELES COUNTY, Calif. — Thousands are under evacuation Thursday as the Bridge Fire continues to explode in Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties.

Cal Fire said the wildfire has burned about 51,167 acres Thursday and is 0% contained. The fire has grown tenfold in a day. It has forced about 10,000 people to evacuate and burned at least 33 homes and six cabins.

The explosive wildfire raced toward the Southern California mountain community of Wrightwood and authorities encouraged residents to leave their belongings behind and leave.

The fire started Sunday, around 2:15 p.m. near Camp Bonita Road and east of Camp Williams, according to Cal Fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

California is only now heading into the teeth of the wildfire season but already has seen nearly three times as much acreage burn than during all of 2023.
