The Caples Fire was originally a prescribed burn that turned into a wildfire when fire and wind conditions became unfavorable for firefighters.

As of Sunday night, the Caples Fire has burned 3,042 acres and is 42% contained. Crews were able to secure two indirect containment lines on the south side of the fire.

Officials described the burning on Sunday and the fire's recent progression as a low intensity underburn, which they say is consistent with their objectives.
