TRUCKEE, Calif. — Evacuation warnings were put into place for a wildfire burning north of the Safeway Shopping Center in Truckee Sunday afternoon.
Ryan Ochoa, battalion chief with Truckee Fire Protection District, said the fire was reported just after 3 p.m. along Donner Pass Road.
Officials said the fire was around 3.3 acres, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation. It is 20% contained. Ochoa said terrain and access issues are the reason why firefighters haven't been able to quickly contain it.
“The fuel is dry and it is respective to embers and I think that us kind of evident that these spot fires keep popping up,” Ochoa said.
Truckee police said evacuation warnings were put in place for TRK- E145. Prior warnings were reduced.
Crews are expected to be on scene over the nighttime hours.

If you live in a wildfire-prone zone, Cal Fire suggests creating a defensible space around your home. Defensible space is an area around a building in which vegetation and other debris are completely cleared. At least 100 feet is recommended.
The Department of Homeland Security suggests assembling an emergency kit that has important documents, N95 respirator masks, and supplies to grab with you if you’re forced to leave at a moment’s notice. The agency also suggests signing up for local warning system notifications and knowing your community’s evacuation plans best to prepare yourself and your family in cases of wildfires.
