Fairfield firefighters snuff out fire that shut down portion of Highway 12 | Update

Fairfield firefighters were combating a wildland fire near Red Top and Highway 12.

FAIRFIELD, Calif. — Update: 5:10 p.m.

After quick work from firefighters, a fire burning off Highway 12 and Red Top was knocked down within 20 minutes. It burned about .4 acres.

The fire caused a portion of Highway 12 to be closed to eastbound traffic at Chadourne Road in Fairfield.

However, crews now expect the highway to reopen in about 20 minutes.

The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation.

A wildland fire has shut down a portion of Highway 12 in Fairfield.

According to the Fairfield Fire Department, the wildland fire is near the Highway 12 and Highway 80. 

Caltrans says the roadway is closed to eastbound traffic at Chadbourne Road in Fairfield due to the brush fire.

Drivers are encouraged to take an alternate route.
