SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. — The Line Fire in San Bernardino County is 42% contained Monday as crews work to control the 38,804-acre blaze.
Some evacuation orders were downgraded to warnings on Sunday. Damage inspection is ongoing in the area. According to Cal Fire, about four structures were damaged and one was destroyed based on the assessments so far.
Authorities have said a delivery driver purposely started the Line Fire in Southern California on Sept. 5.
Arson-related charges have been filed against Justin Wayne Halstenberg, who is accused of starting the Line Fire. He is due to be arraigned on Monday, according to the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office. Halstenberg’s mother, Connie Halstenberg, told the Los Angeles Times that her son “did not light that fire.”

Wildfire Preps
If you live in a wildfire-prone zone, Cal Fire suggests creating a defensible space around your home. Defensible space is an area around a building in which vegetation and other debris are completely cleared. At least 100 feet is recommended.
The Department of Homeland Security suggests assembling an emergency kit that has important documents, N95 respirator masks, and supplies to grab with you if you’re forced to leave at a moment’s notice. The agency also suggests signing up for lvocal warning system notifications and knowing your community’s evacuation plans best to prepare yourself and your family in cases of wildfires.
