CALAVERAS COUNTY, Calif. — Evacuation orders and warnings are in place Wednesday for the Maria Fire in Calaveras County, California.
Cal Fire said the wildfire is about 65 acres and 20% contained as of 6 a.m. Cooler temperatures overnight helped firefighters construct the fireline. Crews are working on reinforcing the fireline today.
The Calaveras County Sheriff's Office said the fire started around midnight Tuesday near the Mokelumne Hill and Mountain Ranch area.
Cal Fire said some firefighters got minor injuries Tuesday and in some cases, they've used aircraft to help firefighters get off the fireline due to the steep terrain.
According to Cal Fire, the fire is in the North Folk Mokelumne River drainage and is holding steady. It isn't threatening Jackson or San Andres as of Tuesday morning.
Evacuation orders and warnings are in effect for Zone CCU-042-B and Zone CCU-030-A. Evacuation warnings are in effect for Zone CCU-029.

WILDFIRE PREPS
If you live in a wildfire-prone zone, Cal Fire suggests creating a defensible space around your home. Defensible space is an area around a building in which vegetation and other debris are completely cleared. At least 100 feet is recommended.
The Department of Homeland Security suggests assembling an emergency kit that has important documents, N95 respirator masks, and supplies to grab with you if you’re forced to leave at a moment’s notice. The agency also suggests signing up for local warning system notifications and knowing your community’s evacuation plans best to prepare yourself and your family in cases of wildfires.
