Pedro Fire in Tuolumne County: Wildfire prompts evacuations in parts of Tuolumne County

The fire sparked in the area of Arbolada Road in La Grange around 1:30 p.m.

TUOLUMNE COUNTY, Calif. — Click here for the latest updates on the Pedro Fire.

Deputies have called for evacuations in parts of Tuolumne County due to the so-called Pedro Fire.

The fire sparked in the area of Arbolada Road in La Grange around 1:30 p.m. According to the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office, the blaze was also threatening structures on Piney Creek and Merced Falls Road.

Evacuations were issued in parts of Tuolumne and Mariposa counties, which are viewable on the maps below.

The fire has reached 2,727 acres, according to Cal Fire. It is currently 5% contained. A spot fire on the Hunters Valley side of the Merced River is about 250 acres.

A small animal shelter is available at the Tuolumne County Animal Services shelter in Jamestown. A temporary evacuation point for people is also available at the Coulterville VFW Hall.

Wildfire Preps

If you live in a wildfire-prone zone, Cal Fire suggests creating a defensible space around your home. Defensible space is an area around a building in which vegetation and other debris are completely cleared. At least 100 feet is recommended.

The Department of Homeland Security suggests assembling an emergency kit that has important documents, N95 respirator masks, and supplies to grab with you if you’re forced to leave at a moment’s notice. The agency also suggests signing up for local warning system notifications and knowing your community’s evacuation plans best to prepare yourself and your family in cases of wildfires.
