BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. — The Railbridge Fire in Butte County rapidly grew to 130 acres Thursday. It prompted Evacuation Orders and warnings, but those have since been downgraded.
The fire, which started Thursday evening, sparked just after 4 p.m. at Railbridge Road and Crestmont Court near Palermo, according to Cal Fire Butte County Fire Department.
Air and ground crews worked together to battle the fire, which is near the footprint of the Apache Fire from June, according to officials.
In just an hour, the fire jumped to 70 acres in size. Multiple structures were threatened.

WILDFIRE PREPERATIONS:
In 2022, approximately 331,360 acres burned overall from 7,477 wildfires — well below the five-year average, according to Cal Fire.
If you live in a wildfire-prone zone, Cal Fire says create a defensible space around your home. Defensible space is an area around a building in which vegetation and other debris are completely cleared. At least 100 feet is recommended.
The Department of Homeland Security says to assemble an emergency kit with important documents, N95 respirator masks and supplies to grab with you if you’re forced to leave at a moment’s notice. Sign up for local warning system notifications and know your community’s evacuation plans best to prepare yourself and your family in case of wildfire, the agency said.
