Man rescues 5 Rottweilers left behind in Butte County Park Fire

The search and rescue team member ran 1.5 miles to their location and had the five dogs follow him back to a helicopter.

BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. — Five Rottweilers were saved from the Park Fire in Butte County after their owner had to leave them behind while evacuating on July 24.

According to the Butte County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Team, the four puppies and two adult dogs were left behind near Campbellville after their owner's truck stopped working during an evacuation. Even though the owner left behind their location, first responders couldn't access the area due to the fire.

Trevor Skaggs, a member of the search and rescue team, flew into the area Saturday, ran 1.5 miles to their location and found the four puppies and their mother alive. The puppies' father didn't survive.

After getting them some water and some bites of his protein bar, he got them to follow him 1.5 miles back to a helicopter and over to Chico Airport. The helicopter was flown by sheriff's office pilot Conner Smith.

The dogs are being taken care of by the North Valley Animal Disaster Group.
