SOLANO COUNTY, Calif. — If you're seeing and smelling smoke in the air, it's more than likely from the Sites Fire in Colusa County.
The Sites Fire has burned around 10,000 acres since sparking Monday afternoon, east of Stonyford. Its rapid spread has been influenced by winds from the north and low relative humidity.
Fairfield Fire Department said their area is getting drift smoke from surrounding fires, like the Sites Fire and the Point Fire in Sonoma County, but there are no fires burning in Fairfield. That smoke could stick around for a while.
"We'll see some lighter smoke moving into the valley this evening and shifting toward the foothills tonight," said ABC10 Meteorologist Carley Gomez. "It's expected to be moderate air quality but will only affect those very sensitive to smoke. Most of the smoke will shift north into the overnight hours before returning again Wednesday afternoon."
The Sutter County Office of Emergency Management said that smoke will also bring impacts to air quality into their area as well.
On Wednesday, winds are expected to shift and bring Sites Fire smoke back south into the Valley.
