SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Smoke from the Crozier Fire will again impact air quality mainly between I-80 and US-50, including the majority of the Tahoe Basin and South Lake Tahoe.
Friday started with poor air quality north of Placerville due to smoke from the Crozier Fire. Tahoe also had worsened air quality Friday morning from smoke that settled in and become trapped near the lake level.
The Canyon Fire in Tuolumne County is reducing air quality for some areas around Sonora, but the amount of smoke is not as significant as what is being produced by the Crozier Fire.
Winds will pick up a bit around lunchtime and may briefly improve air quality for the Tahoe Basin, but later in the afternoon, stronger westerly winds will push another round of smoke into the area. This will result in hazy skies and poor air quality through the evening.
Avoid long periods outside in the smoke, keep windows closed, and run air conditioning and air purifiers.
If you're planning on spending time up in Tahoe over the next few days, smoke will definitely impact your plans. Unhealthy air quality in the 150-250+ range will be present at times.
The smoke forecast for the valley continues to be positive. The Delta Breeze will keep the valley clear of smoke, and the overall weather pattern has upper-level winds out of the west keeping skies from getting hazy.
