Tiger Fire in Amador County: Evacuations ordered for some communities

The Tiger Fire is burning in Amador County

AMADOR COUNTY, Calif. — Authorities are calling for some mandatory evacuations due to the so-called Tiger Fire in Amador County.

The fire is burning along Tiger Creek Road, just west of the Tiger Creek Power House. It's burning toward the north/north east and has grown to about seven to 10 acres in size, according to Amador Fire Protection District. 

The Amador County Sheriff's Office issued the evacuation order for the surrounding area, including the Silver Drive community. Amador Fire said the evacuation order includes Silver Drive and McKenzie Drive communities to Highway 88.

Officials said deputies are going door to door to confirm people are aware of the incident.

Shelters

A Red Cross Shelter is being set up at the Senior Center in Jackson, located at 229 New York Ranch Road. 

A large animal evacuation shelter is being set up at Laughton Ranch, located at 90 Clinton Road, Jackson

Wildfire Preps

If you live in a wildfire-prone zone, Cal Fire suggests creating a defensible space around your home. Defensible space is an area around a building in which vegetation and other debris are completely cleared. At least 100 feet is recommended.

The Department of Homeland Security suggests assembling an emergency kit that has important documents, N95 respirator masks, and supplies to grab with you if you’re forced to leave at a moment’s notice. The agency also suggests signing up for lvocal warning system notifications and knowing your community’s evacuation plans best to prepare yourself and your family in cases of wildfires.
