Evacuations caused by Weimar Fire near I-80 in Placer County lifted

Officials say the fire started near eastbound I-80 and Weimar Cross Road.

PLACER COUNTY, Calif. — Cal Fire crews are battling a fire near Interstate 80 in Placer County Friday night. 

Officials say the fire is burning near eastbound I-80 and Weimar Cross Road. It has prompted evacuations and closed all but one lane on eastbound 80. 

People along I-80 and Canyon Way are no longer under an Evacuation Warning or Order, according to the Placer County Sheriff's Office.

Canyon Way is closed while firefighters continue working in the area.

If you live in a wildfire-prone zone, Cal Fire suggests creating a defensible space around your home. Defensible space is an area around a building in which vegetation and other debris are completely cleared. At least 100 feet is recommended.

The agency also suggests signing up for local warning system notifications and knowing your community’s evacuation plans best to prepare yourself and your family in cases of wildfires.
