SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A woman killed last week near Loaves and Fishes in Sacramento has been identified.
Sara Jane Beebe, 43, was found dead around 6 a.m. July 16 by officers with the Sacramento Police Department after reports of a fight along the 1300 block of North C Street. She had at least one puncture wound, police said.
Beebe was identified Wednesday by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office. The coroner's office also said Beebe was homeless.
On July 17, Sacramento police said 54-year-old Kevin Birdsong was arrested and booked in Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of murder.
Jail records show Birdsong is ineligible for bail and expected to appear Aug. 15 in Sacramento County Superior Court.
Loaves and Fishes, a nonprofit homelessness services provider, closed its entire campus for the first time in 41 years the day of the killing.
The organization said in a statement Beebe was known and loved throughout its campus community.
“She was a regular at Maryhouse, Friendship Park and our Dining Room,” the statement read. “It is here that she was seen and heard; we laughed (and) cried with her more times than we can count. She will be missed.”
Loaves and Fishes reopened the following day.
