Closing after 72 years: Food service that operated in Missouri and Illinois shutting down

The company rebranded from Schwan's Home Delivery to Yelloh in spring 2022 but still operated under the ownership of the Schwan family.

ST PAUL, Minn. — Yelloh, the frozen food company formerly known as Schwan’s Home Delivery, has had a storied 72-year history, at one time serving customers across 48 states, including Missouri and Illinois, from its base in Minnesota. The company will shutter in November.

Marshall, Minnesota-based Yelloh will cease all operations due to "multiple insurmountable business challenges" related to economic forces and changing consumer lifestyles, according to a Monday announcement.

The company told state regulators it would lay off 176 employees at eight Minnesota locations, including Bloomington, Eagan and Maple Grove. The news comes less than a year after Yelloh made significant cuts to its workforce and physical footprint across the country.
