Yosemite National Park to close due to incoming major winter storm

The National Weather Service is forecasting several feet of snow throughout the park with very high winds.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Because of a major winter storm expected to hit the Sierra, Yosemite National Park will be closed starting Thursday at midnight.

"The park will remain closed at least through Sunday at noon (possibly later)," park officials said in a social media post. "Visitors currently in the park should leave as soon as possible, and no later than noon tomorrow, March 1."

The National Weather Service is forecasting several feet of snow throughout the park with very high winds.

The ABC10 weather team says a Blizzard Warning is in effect for the Sierra beginning at 4 a.m. Thursday through 10 a.m. Sunday, and it is only the eighth Blizzard Warning issued by the Sacramento National Weather Service since 2008.
