MODESTO, Calif. — Firefighters in Modesto had their hands full Sunday night after two large fires broke out around the city.
The first fire sparked up at an abandoned automotive repair shop in the 300 block of N. 9th Street, near Tully Road just to the southwest of Modesto Junior College.
The four-alarm fire threatened several structures, according to the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department. Officials told ABC10 the building had been abandoned for at least 20 years. The cause has not yet been determined.
Dozens of firefighters responded to the fire. Authorities shut down both 9th and Tully streets while crews finished off hotspots.
Shortly after the first fire started, a second fire ignited in a neighborhood near Enslen Avenue and Roseburg Avenue. The cause of this fire also hasn't been determined.
Several residents took to social media to share videos of the scene.
