Modesto shooting spree leads to arrest of 12 people, guns, drugs recovered

Investigators worked for months to identify the suspects and try to figure out the motive behind the shootings. Evidence led them to two feuding families in the area with gang affiliations.

12 people have been arrested and multiple guns recovered Thursday night after a shooting spree in Modesto.

Modesto Police say the shootings began on New Year's Day when multiple shots were fired at a home in the 3400 block of Penny Lane. The resident of the home was in the garage at the time of the shooting.

11 shootings were reported to police in the following months. Most victims reported damage to their homes with no one injured inside.

One victim did suffer non-life threatening injuries after being shot several times during a fight on February 9. A 14-year-old was arrested for that shooting.

Investigators worked to identify the suspects and try to figure out the motive behind the shootings.

Detectives were led to two feuding families in the area with gang affiliations.

Probation and parole searches were conducted and served at 14 homes in Modesto, Empire and Ceres. The searches led to the arrest of 12 people. 11 guns were recovered and police found methamphetamine, heroin, Xanax and marijuana in the homes.

Those arrested and charged include:

  • Eduardo Gallardo, 27, arrested for felon in possession of ammunition, violation of probation. Ammunition and magazine recovered from residence.
  • Mary Ellen Klee, 38, contacted in front of the residence and cited for possession of methamphetamine and an outstanding Turlock warrant. Methamphetamine found in her possession.
  • Tyliek Loring, 21, arrested for outstanding warrants of assault with a deadly weapon and hit and run.
  • Andrew Rodriguez, 21, arrested for felon in possession of a firearm, person prohibited from possession a firearm, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and violation of parole. A handgun and Xanax pills were recovered during the search.
  • Otis Rodriguez, 36, arrested for possession of a controlled substance and violation of probation. Methamphetamine was recovered during the search.
  • Andrew Hernandez, 24, arrested for felon in possession of a firearm, person prohibited from possessing a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm.
  • Jesse Castaneda, 53, arrested for possession of a controlled substance, violation of probation and a warrant. Recovered from the search were 2-rifles, 3-handguns, methamphetamine and marijuana.
  • Martin Perez, 28, arrested for possession of methamphetamine for sales, possession of a controlled substance with a loaded firearm and possession of an assault weapon. A handgun registered to Perez was found in his neighbor’s back yard. Ammunition was recovered inside the residence matching that of an assault rifle also recovered in the next door neighbor’s backyard.
  • Domingo Perez, Jr., 30, was cited for possession of a controlled substance.
  • Floyd Long, 41, and Brooke Templeton, 21, arrested for possession of controlled substance for sales and possession of a controlled substance with a loaded firearm. Recovered during the search were 2-rifles, a shotgun, a handgun, methamphetamine and heroin.
  • Grant Mathis, 35, was arrested during a traffic stop for driving on a suspended license and multiple warrants.
