So what happens when record numbers of readers buy a book, and then immediately want to discard it? According to a report in the Mirror, one UK thrift store became so overrun with copies of E.L. James' book that they had to ban any further Fifty Shades donations.
An Oxfam thrift store in South Wales received "literally hundreds" of secondhand copies of the book, which boasted over 125 million in sales worldwide and spawned a movie adaptation with Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dorner.
"We appreciate all the donations - but less Fifty Shades and more Sixties and Seventies vinyl would be good," store employee Phil Broadhurst told the Mirror.
