Toys R Us and Babies R Us stores began going-out-of-business sales last week, and announced new rules about gift cards, online orders, registries, returns, layaway, coupons and loyalty rewards points.

Here's what you need to know:

How long will stores be open?

The liquidation officially ends in June, but the stores could close earlier if merchandise sells out quickly.

Gift cards

Gift cards and e-gift cards will be accepted through April 21.

Refunds

All purchases made during the liquidation sales are final, with no refunds allowed. Purchases made before March 22 at non-liquidating stores can be returned for store credit until April 21.

Online

The Toys R Us and Babies R Us websites will remain open for a limited time. Orders placed before the liquidation began will be delivered.

Loyalty rewards

New rewards points will appear on your account, but they can no longer be redeemed. Endless Earnings e-gift cards for the baby registry will be accepted through April 21.

Coupons

Coupons from direct-mail promotions, advertising inserts or the Geoffrey Birthday Club won't be accepted in stores or online.

Layaway

Layaway customers are being notified that they have 21 days to pay the remaining balance and claim their purchase, or to request a refund of their deposit. Any layaway merchandise that isn't claimed within the 21-day period can be sold by the liquidators.

Baby registry

Members will be able to access their registries for as long as the website remains open. No new registries are being accepted. Members should copy their registry items as soon as possible in case the website shuts down suddenly.
