Talk about the yellow brick road!

The walkways of a mall in Yichang, a city in central China, have been paved with gold – $32 million worth – according to reports in local media.

Six-hundred-and-six 24-carat bars, each weighing about 2.2 pounds, line the walkways, all enclosed in reinforced glass.

Thousands of shoppers have lined up to see and use the spectacular footpaths, according to the Shanghaiist website. Walking on gold is said to bring good luck.

The display was created to mark the mall's 18th anniversary, Shanghaiist reports. It is also celebrating the country's "Golden Week," which starts on Oct. 1 and is the day when the People's Republic of China was founded in 1949.

The gold will be removed when the festivities end Oct. 7, the website ChinaNews.com reported.
