"Squeaky' Fromme 1975 mental exam interview tapes released

The former Charles Manson cult member discussed her vegetarian eating habits, her LSD experiences and life among Manson family members
U.S. Secret Service agents put handcuffs on Lynette Fromme after she allegedly pointed a gun at President Gerald Ford as he walked from his hotel to the State Capitol building in Sacramento, Ca., on Sept. 5, 1975. The agent holding Fromme at center, wearing dark glasses, is Larry Bruendorf.

Audio tapes of a mental exam on Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme were released to the public Thursday and reveal a woman not overly concerned about her arrest for the attempted assassination of President Gerald Ford.

"I always make the best of whatever situation I'm in", she said in one portion of the 90-minute exam with a state psychologist, conducted after her arrest on Sept. 5, 1975.

The former Charles Manson cult member discussed her vegetarian eating habits, her LSD experiences and life among Manson family members as they traveled around the state collecting members who claimed to be running away from abuse at home.

When asked about her feelings on her arrest and impending trial, Fromme confidently expressed her belief that she could convince a jury of her innocence.

"I feel definitely [that] I have a 70-percent chance of being found not guilty," Fromme answered.

Fromme was found guilty of attempted assassination and was sentenced to life in prison. She served 34 years and was paroled in 2009 from a federal prison in Fort Worth, Texas. Some reports say she moved to New York.
