AUSTIN, Texas -- It's official, more Californians move to Texas than residents from any other state.

According to a new report by the Texas Association of Realtors, 66,318 people moved from the Golden State to the Lone Star State last year. That's more than double from the next closest state, Florida.

Overall, 584,034 people from around the country moved here, topping the nation; however, there are still more Texans moving within the state than outsiders coming in.

In Williamson and Hays Counties near Austin, more residents moved from Travis County than anywhere else. In Travis County most newcomers come from Harris, Collin and Tarrant Counties.

Williamson County Association of Realtors President Gary Cocanougher sees plenty of reasons why people want to move to there.

"Mainly jobs and just quality of life, the affordable housing that we have here compared to other parts of the country," he said.

Behind California, the other state people are moving to Texas from the most are Florida, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Illinois.

There are plenty of Texans leaving as well. More than 32,000 left for California last year. The rest of the top five in order are Oklahoma, Florida, Colorado and Louisiana.
