SACRAMENTO, California — Traffic backed up on U.S. Route 50 Wednesday, after a big rig and trailer overturned around 1:40 p.m., according to Sacramento Metro Fire District.
Metro Fire tweeted out a report of the accident and shared several photos and videos of the scene — showing the overturned dump truck on the westbound U.S-50, near the freeway entrance just east of Watt Avenue.
CLOSURES AND DELAYS
California Highway Patrol asked that drivers avoid the area as traffic is backed up to Bradshaw Road. They are warning the public to expect long delays.
The Watt Avenue onramp to westbound US-50 is closed, CHP said. Officers are not sure when this onramp will reopen, and tweeted, "As soon as it is safe our officers will clear the roadway. Sorry for the delays."
Drivers heading from the Folsom and Rancho Cordova area were told to expect delayed traffic when heading west towards Sacramento until the scene was fully cleared.
