Gov. Jerry Brown's got jokes this election year.
On Monday night, the governor said the state would "have to build a wall around California to defend ourselves from the rest of this country," according to video captured by The Sacramento Bee.
Brown made the remarks at a dinner held at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in downtown Sacramento, sponsored by the California Labor Federation and State Building and Construction Trades Council, the Bee reports. The two groups represent and lobby in the Capitol for labor union members of various industries in California.
In a previous interview with Bloomberg News, Brown said "probably, a dumber idea I can’t imagine" than Trump's proposal to build a wall along the southern border of the United States that Mexico would finance, because of the tension it would create.
"By the way, that is a joke," Brown added. "We don't like walls. We like bridges."
