California's 13th District, House of Representatives: Election results

There's a close race, and then there's John Duarte (R) vs Adam Gray (D) from 2022. On Nov. 5, they'll square off one more time in a rematch.

STANISLAUS COUNTY, Calif. — There's winning an election and then there's winning an election by a few hundred out of 133,000 votes. That was the story behind Congressman John Duarte (R) and Adam Gray (D) in 2022. On Election night, they'll square off one more time.

Duarte came out the victor in 2022 by about .5% of the vote. However, while Duarte is now the incumbent, experts say this is still anybody's race to win.

The Cook Political Report and Larry Sabato's Crystal Ball call this one a toss-up heading into the election.

The matchup could also make a meaningful impact in the balance of power in Congress, and will undoubtedly have a lot of eyes on the race.

The district includes the western parts of Stanislaus County along with Lathrop but extends down to parts of Merced and Fresno counties.

When do we find out who won the election?

Voters will start to see results not long after 8 p.m., but keep in mind, these aren't the final results. Every number seen on election night are unofficial results.

While some elections might be called on election night, that's generally a projection from media outlets or experts. Governments don't call elections. Mail-in ballots, provisional ballots, ballots from registered voters in the military deployed over seas and more all get counted for the final result.

The last day for counties to certify results is Dec. 5. The Secretary of State will then have until Dec. 7 to certify the vote, with the Statement of Vote  certified on Dec. 13.
