SACRAMENTO, Calif. — On the final weekend before Election Day, the candidates for Sacramento's mayoral race were actively courting undecided voters, not wasting a single second with Election Day nearing.
Dr. Flojaune "Flo" Cofer and Assemblymember Kevin McCarty were busy knocking on doors and making a case for why they were best for the future of Sacramento.
“Feeling very cautiously optimistic,” said Dr. Flojaune Cofer. “I think we have shared a very strong message about how we can have leadership in Sacramento that listens to us, that partners with us and respects us and has a vision for what we can do together.”
Dr. Cofer, a newcomer to the political arena, visited a downtown neighborhood to convince voters to elect the 41-year-old public health professional with 20 years of experience.
“I am a corporate-free candidate because I want to represent the people who live in Sacramento,” Dr. Cofer said.
52-year-old McCarty spent the past 10 years representing the capital city in the State Assembly.
“I am feeling upbeat, still a lot of votes to be cast. Half the voters have not submitted their ballots yet. People still making up their minds,” McCarty said. “I hope the people of Sacramento recognize my experience and my ideas, my leadership, my vision forward for Sacramento for the next generation.
McCarty delivered that message to the undecided voters of Land Park.
With each step, the two candidates were not leaving anything to chance.
“This is an important election not just at the Presidential level, but there is a saying that all politics are local,” McCarty said.
“It really feels good that we got our message out and people are hearing us and are excited about what Sacramento can be together,” Dr. Cofer said.
