Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Tim Walz visits Sacramento for campaign fundraiser

Tuesday marked the Walz family's first time in Sacramento.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Democratic Vice Presidential candidate and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz was in Sacramento Tuesday for a campaign fundraiser.

His daughter Hope traveled with him, marking the Walz family's first time in Sacramento.

Walz was greeted by several California leaders, including Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis, Congresswoman Doris Matsui, Treasurer Fiona Ma and Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg.

Walz has traveled up and down the West Coast in recent days, making stops for fundraisers.

He was in San Diego and Santa Barbara on Sunday and then spent Monday in Los Angeles, Culver City and Seattle, Washington.

While in Sacramento, Walz attended a private fundraising event at the Carmichael home of developer Angelo Tsakopoulos, the father of Eleni Kounalakis.

ABC10 spoke with Steinberg as he was leaving the event. Steinberg said he had to resist the urge to call Walz "coach."

“He was very affable and he’s in the fight for the future. I know the people of this country, especially in middle America, relate to his ability, his insight and to his manner. He gave a rousing speech at the event and really talked about what’s at stake for the future of this country that we all know one candidate is for the people and the other is for himself,” Steinberg said.

Steinberg said he believes Walz is a good fit for the state because he is practical and progressive, just like Californians.
