SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Assemblyman Kevin McCarty has declared victory in the Sacramento mayoral race, which has not been officially decided yet. His opponent, Dr. Flojaune Cofer, is waiting for the final results.
ABC10 is not calling the race, as ballots are still being counted in Sacramento County. Cofer's campaign told ABC10 they're not conceding.
In a social media statement, McCarty says he's "honored" to be elected as the city's next mayor and congratulated Cofer on her campaign.
"It is clear that voters want to see change, and I am ready to start the hard work needed to move Sacramento forward," McCarty's statement reads.
Sacramento County dropped its latest results Tuesday, which showed McCarty leading Cofer by 2,632 votes. McCarty has 95,310 votes (50.7%) while Cofer had 92, 678 (49.3%.)
According to the county, there are 8,600 ballots left to county, but it's unclear how many of those are from voters in Sacramento city limits.
