Alameda County gun store owner fatally shot attempted robber, police say

Police say the suspect, a 28-year-old from Redwood City, entered the store armed with a hammer and tried to rob it when he was shot by the store owner.

LIVERMORE, Calif. — A man armed with a hammer was shot and killed Sunday afternoon after he allegedly tried to rob an Alameda County gun shop.

According to the Livermore Police Department, it happened around 2:30 p.m. Sunday at East Bay Firearms on First Street.

Upon arrival police found a 28-year-old man from Redwood City with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the man who died entered the store wearing a mask, a hoodie pulled over his head, and gloves. Witnesses say the man was armed with a hammer and tried to rob the store.

The store owner shot two rounds, fatally wounding the man. Police say it appears to be a case of self-defense and the store owner is cooperating with the investigation.

Five people were in the store at the time of the shooting; none were injured.
