BODEGA BAY, Calif. — A second boat capsized along the Sonoma County coast Monday, leaving one man dead and a second missing.
According to the U.S. Coast Guard, a hiker reported a capsized boat with two men onboard near Mussel Point around 7 a.m.
The Sonoma County Sheriff Marine Unit was already nearby searching for boaters who went missing Saturday night.
One of the two men was found around 7:40 a.m. and he died despite lifesaving efforts. The second man is still missing.
“The ocean conditions are dangerous right now, with large swells and high winds in the afternoon and evening. We advise everyone to use caution and understand the forecasted conditions,” wrote the Coast Guard.
Monday’s incident marks the second deadly boat capsizing off the Sonoma County in three days.
The first happened Saturday when the Coast Guard received a report of a 21-foot boat carrying three adults and three kids didn’t return to shore.
Search crews found an 11-year-old boy alive Sunday. Searchers then found the body of a teenager in the water hours later. Four people are still missing from this incident.
