SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. — Trails to Burney Falls, a popular location at McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park, will close April 1 and remain closed for the summer season.
They say the closing is to make needed critical repairs and improvements to the trails due to high visitation.
The $835,000 project and trail closings are expected to begin April 1 and remain in place during the summer — and likely the fall, too.
The trails affected are: Falls Loop Trail and Burney Creek Trail. This means parkgoers will have no access to the waterfall or pool area.
The trails not affected are: The Rim Trail, PSEA Trail, Headwaters Trail and Pioneer Cemetery Trail.
The rest of the park will stay open, including the campgrounds, general store, marina, visitor center and day-use areas.
California State Parks says Caltrans will be performing a Highway 89 rehabilitation project at the same time which will add to traffic congestion, delays and closures near the park entrance.
