SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department is warning residents of thieves taking advantage of women at grocery stores following several wallet thefts this month.
The thefts happened at several Safeway locations and a Raley's between December 7 and December 14.
During the crimes, a person or persons approach the victim inside the grocery store and asks for advice finding ingredients for a recipe, sheriff's officials said. The suspect explains that she is working for an elderly client and wants to surprise the client with a specific meal.
According to sheriff's officials, the suspect is friendly and waits until the victim is distracted before taking their wallet. The suspect then uses the victim's credit cards at retail stores nearby before the victim notices the wallet is missing.
There have been seven victims identified and all have been women. In two of the cases, the victims were older women.
The sheriff's department is looking into whether there are other people who may have fallen victim to the crimes. If this is you, call the department at 916-874-5115.

Mysterious light spotted over California
A classified satellite launch had all eyes in the sky Wednesday night, as Vandeberg Air Force Base prepared for NROL-71. Unfortunately, the launch was scrubbed for a second time this week, and the fourth time overall. 30th Space Wing Vandenberg Airforce base said there were no launches on the west coast at all, that they knew of. So for now, the light in the sky remains a mystery!
