Sacramento standoff ends after woman surrenders to deputies, officials confirm | UPDATE

There were three young children inside of the apartment at the time shots were fired, but all of them appeared uninjured, officials said.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — UPDATE 4 p.m.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect in Tuesday's standoff as Kathy Miller, who surrendered to peacefully. 

Her three children were unharmed and are with family.

Miller was arrested and charged with two felonies; discharge of firearm and abusing or endangering health of a child. 

UPDATE: 9:50 a.m.

The woman who held an hour-long standoff with Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies Tuesday morning surrendered without incident, officials confirmed.

According to Sacramento County Sheriff's Sgt. Tess Deterding, a woman called police around 8 a.m. about an altercation inside of an apartment in the 8800 block of La Riviera Drive. When deputies arrived, the heard gunshots inside the apartment building.

It's unclear whether or not the shots were being fired at the deputies, Deterding said.

Deterding could not confirm whether or not the woman in the standoff was the one who initially called police for help.

Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputies are responding to a standoff Tuesday morning near Watt Avenue and La Riviera Drive after a woman called in an "emergency," officials confirmed.

According to sheriff's Sgt. Tess Deterding, a woman called just before 8:10 a.m. to report some type of emergency inside of an apartment in the 8800 block of La Riviera Drive. When deputies arrived, the heard gunshots inside the apartment building.

Deterding told ABC10 that as deputies began evacuating apartments in the area, they heard more shots coming from inside the apartment.

Police officials have closed down La Riviera Drive, Watertown Way and Watt Avenue while they investigate.
