Sandbag locations opened in anticipation of heavy rains

The county only opens its sandbag distribution sites in anticipation of continuous heavy rainfall events where severe and widespread flooding could happen.

Due to a coming storm, sandbags are becoming available to residents.

Sacramento County

Two sandbag locations have been opened in Sacramento County as residents are encouraged to prepare for impending severe weather.

The Department of Water Resources suggest those whose property has past issues with flooding and standing water to get their sandbags in advance and keep them on hand throughout the winter. More locations will be opened should the weather conditions worsen.

The county only opens its sandbag distribution sites in anticipation of continuous heavy rainfall events where severe and widespread flooding could happen.

These are the sites opened in the county:

  • County Branch Center, 3847 Branch Center Rd. Sacramento, Calif. 95827
  • Orangevale Community Center, 6826 Hazel Ave., Orangevale Calif. 95662
  • Westside Park, 6555 West 2nd St., Rio Linda, Calif. 95673 


Sandbags and sand are also available at most hardware stores.

Here is a list of all county sandbag sites, including sites that haven’t yet been opened.

Nevada County

The Nevada County Office of Emergency Services has also opened sandbag locations in anticipation of the rain.

Residents can find sandbags at the following locations: 

  •  Next to the Nevada County Warehouse on the corner of Highway 49 and East Broad Street in Nevada City
  • Penn Valley Fire Protection District located at 10513 Spenceville Road in Penn Valley
  • North San Juan Community Hall located at 10057 Reservoir Street in North San Juan
  • Higgins Fire Protection District Station 21 located at 10106 Combie Road

Sandbags will be limited, and you'll need to bring a shovel to fill them. 

Solano County

Sandbags and sand can be picked up at these locations:

Benicia  

  • Corporation Yard located at 2400 East Second Street
  • East E Street parking lot (across the street from Benicia Yacht Club)

Dixon

  • Sand bags are located at 205 Ford Way
  • Sand is located at old Ace Hardware (N. Jackson and West A Street)

Fairfield

  • Empty sandbags - Available Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Fairfield Public Works Corporation Yard. There is a 10-bag limit. 
  • Sand - Available at the corner of Pittman and Cordelia Roads and the southeast corner of Allan Witt Park off of Woolner Avenue 

Bagging locations are self-serve.

Vacaville

The following sandbag sites will only be active if there is flooding:

  • Irene Larson Park, 1800 Alamo Drive (please bring proof of residence and shovel)
  • Various city locations may be made available if flooding occurs.

Vallejo

  • Vallejo Sanitation and Flood Control located at 45 Solano Avenue

Suisun City

  • 701 Civic Center Blvd, behind police department

Rio Vista

  • 1 Main Street
  • Firehouse -350 Main Street sand bags only

Unincorporated areas of Solano County

Cordelia Fire District

  • Corner of Rockville Rd and Suisun Valley Road

Montezuma Fire District

  • Jericho Dredging located at 1285 Collinsville Road

Suisun Fire District

  • 4965 Clayton Road

Yolo County

Winters

  • Sand and sandbags available at the north end of East Street between Yolo Federal Credit Union (Winters Branch) and the Public Works Corporation Yard.

San Joaquin County

Tracy

  • Boyd Service Center - 520 S. Tracy Blvd, Gate 1

The station will be open 24 hours a day and 7 days a week during anticipated rain storms. There is a 10 bag limit.

Other areas of San Joaquin County

San Joaquin County does not provide sand bags, however, they do have a list of areas where sand bags can be purchased in their area.

Stanislaus County

Modesto

Up to 20 sandbags per residence can be supplied by the City of Modesto. 

For sandbags in Modesto, contact 209-342-2244 or make an online request.

County residents can contact 209-525-4130.

Turlock

During rainy seasons, sandbags are available to the public at 901 South Walnut Avenue.  

When there is a storm, someone from the City will be at the station from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Sutter County

Property owners and businesses are asked to take no more than 25 sandbags. Sand and sandbags are available at the following locations:

Live Oak

  • The City Corporation Yard on N Street in Live Oak.

Meridian

  • The Meridian Fire Department located at 1100 Third Street .

Oswald-Tudor area

The Oswald-Tudor Fire Department located at 1280 Barry Rd .

Pleasant Grove

  • The Pleasant Grove Fire Department located at 3100 Howsley Road, 24 hour location.

Robbins

  • The Community Center at the end of Del Monte in the town of Robbins.

Sutter

  • The County Sign Yard located at Pass Road and Acacia Road, 3098 Acacia Avenue.

Trowbridge

  • The Road Maintenance Yard located at 2560 Pacific Avenue, 24 hour location

Yuba City

  • The Corporation Yard located at 1185 Market Street, 24 hour location

El Dorado County

Placerville

  • Placerville Police Department has sandbags in the lobby 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. 
  • Sand locations are at the Mosquito Bus Depot and the Post Office on Sacramento St.
