STOCKTON, Calif. — While working to extinguish a mattress fire, a Stockton firefighter fell waist deep into a hole from the first floor to the basement of a building.
Around 1 a.m. Saturday morning, firefighters responded to reports of smoke from a building. Firefighters arrived to a boarded up and secured building with fire located somewhere in the structure.
After gaining entry, firefighters found a mattress fire that was believed to have been set by a vagrant.
A social media post from Stockton Firefighters Local 456 shows them attempting to extinguish the flames, but, at the 43 second mark, one of the firefighters falls waist deep into hole from the first floor to the basement.
The building was said to have been burned previously and damaged. The fire in that building was said to have posed a dynamic situation if the fire had gotten larger. However, crews were able to extinguish the fire while it was small.
