An outpouring of support for the Sacramento Police Department and the family of fallen Officer Tara O'Sullivan will continue Sunday, at a vigil to celebrate her life.
Officer O'Sullivan was shot and killed by a gunman while responding to a domestic disturbance call at a home in North Sacramento. The 26-year-old was a recent graduate of the city's police academy and was a Sacramento State University alumna.

On Friday the University announced that the vigil will be held in the Outdoor Studio Theatre, northwest of the school library. Friends, family, fellow Hornets and community members will be present to talk about the Officer's short, but impactful life.
"I am devastated that this young and promising life has been lost to such violence," University President Robert S. Nelsen said in a statement.
O'Sullivan enrolled in the Law Enforcement Candidate Scholars (LECS) Program while at Sac State and was in the first class to graduate from the program in 2017. Soon after graduation from the university, she enrolled in the Sacramento Police Academy.
O'Sullivan had such a passion for law enforcement that she even decorated her high school graduation cap with her plans to attend the academy.
"She is remembered as one of the brightest scholars in LECS and as a highly active leader," Nelson said. "Our hearts go out to Tara’s family, friends, classmates, and fellow officers. This exceptional young officer will be remembered by the Hornet Family for her intelligence, commitment to public service, and bravery. "
