Man arrested on murder charge for Live Oak homicide from May

Jesus Esteban Perez was not initially arrested on the murder charge but for charges of evading a law enforcement officer and possession of a firearm by a felon.

SUTTER COUNTY, Calif. — Sutter County Sheriff's detectives arrested a man on Friday for allegedly shooting and killing a man back in May. 

Jesus Esteban Perez, 39, was in Sutter County Jail for a parole violation according to Sutter County Sheriff’s Office, when the sheriff’s office charged Perez with first-degree murder.

Jesus Perez was arrested as a suspect in a Sutter County shooting that happened in May.

Perez is suspected of shooting and killing Paramjit Singh Randhawa, 61 of Yuba City, back in May. 

He had initially been arrested on charges of evading a law enforcement officer, threatening a law enforcement officer, and for being a felon in possession of a weapon.  

Sutter County detectives also arrested Shannon Marie Johnson, 38, for allegedly withholding information and lying about the investigation, according to the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office.

Shannon Johnson was arrested after allegedly withholding information and lying about the homicide investigation, according to officials.

Authorities said Johnson was the person who made the call about the shooting.  

Perez and Johnson are scheduled to be in court on July 23 at 3 p.m.
