City of Roseville Police are warning residents about a scam that has taken over $50,000 from multiple people.

According to police, the scamming victims all responded to a Facebook post, or newspaper advertisement, hoping to get their future read through tarot cards.

While at their appointment, the tarot card reader said that if the victim gave them money, it would double the next day.

Roseville Police say that the victims range in ages, but were all Hispanic, Spanish speaking individuals.

"Unfortunately, in all the situations reported to the Roseville Police Department, this investment in their fortune did not come true," said the department in a Facebook post.

Police say scammers have defrauded over $50,000 from multiple victims using this something-for-nothing scam.

The department released a few tips to keep yourself from falling victim to a scam like this:

  • Know who you are working with and always ask to see a valid business license and references.
  • If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
  • Always be sure to protect your financial and personal information.
  • If you're unsure about what you are about to pay for, consult an adviser.
