PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- A teen was praised on social media by Peachtree City police and fire officials this week when she successfully made an emergency landing on an area golf course.
Officials with the Peachtree City Police Department posted on Facebook that 17-year-old Sierra landed her single engine plane near the tee box for hole 11 at Planterra Golf Club.
Her mother later commented that Sierra was in the process of completing one of her solo flights as part of her flight training when the engine went out.
"As a parent of a student pilot, you often wonder if your child will stay calm and recall what she has been trained to do," Steph Lund said on Facebook.
Not only did Sierra remember what to do, she made such a graceful emergency landing that she was able to walk away - and even take a photo with her slightly worse-for-wear aircraft.
Steph said the first thing her daughter said when her father arrived was that she needed to finish her flight.
