MODESTO, Calif. — The man accused of killing an 8th grader and injuring two of her cousins while allegedly driving drunk made his first appearance in Stanislaus County court on Wednesday.
Kevin Hernandez Solis, 21, is facing charges of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs causing injury.
The Principal at Dutcher Middle School identified the victim as 14-year-old Frieda Pineda, one of the school's 8th grade students.
Pineda was killed in crash in Turlock off of E. Monte Viasta Avenue two weeks before Christmas.
Two of Pineda's cousins were also seriously injured in the crash, one of whom is still in the hospital, sources told ABC10. The other came to Solis' court appearance Wednesday surrounded by family members.
Solis' attorney asked for more time to review reports in this case before entering a plea. The judge ordered Solis to go to Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings twice a week as a condition of his release on bail until further notice. His arraignment and bail review has been set back for two weeks until January 30 at 8:30 a.m.
Solis has been out on a $100,000 bond since December 18.
