Missing veteran's car found in Amador County with human remains inside

More than 7 months after Scott disappeared, his car was found with human remains inside. Those remains have not been identified.

STOCKTON, Calif. — No one has heard or seen 66-year-old Marine Corp Veteran Shannon Scott in more than seven months.

The Wilseyville man left for a medical appointment at the Sacramento Veterans Affairs Medical Center on August 29, 2018. He was set to return home the same day.

But, he never made it.

According to the Calaveras County Sheriffs Office, a family member reported Scott missing two days later.

Months later, his missing white Fiat was found by someone tending to their property off a highway near Plymouth in Amador County.

Sheriffs investigators say human remains were discovered inside the car when it was found Monday. However, there is yet to be any confirmation as to who those remains belong to.

"Pretty nice guy," said John Hicks about his friend Shannon Scott. "Very much family oriented. He had his daughter and son-in-law living with him and three kids."

Hicks said Scott was a Vietnam veteran who taught combat fighting skills while in the Marines.

Neighbors say Scott moved in with his daughter, three kids and the children's father about a year ago. When approached at the home for a comment, a family member declined.

"I lent him a dolly when he first moved in, gave him a couple pieces of furniture. And, um, quiet guy, a lot of dogs," said neighbor Lisa Womack, who lives a couple of houses down the street from the Scott home.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the traffic incident. The case remains under investigation.
