YUBA CITY, Calif. — Yuba City Police received calls of a bear sighting near Buttehouse Road and Harter Parkway Wednesday night.
Police contacted Fish and Game about the bear and was advised to let the bear leave on its own as they believed it was a cub due to its size. Police estimated the bear was just over 5 feet tall and approximately 125 pounds.
Hours later police received another call about a bear near Ainsley and Gray Avenue.
When police arrived they found the same bear. This time, officers were able to corner the bear to a field near Wiliams Way and Gray Avenue where the bear climbed a tree.
The bear remained in the tree until Fish and Game officials were able to arrive and tranquilize the bear. The bear was captured and removed without injury.
Yuba City Police took to Facebook to share a video of the bear running past houses.
The department also said thank you to all the departments that helped capture the bear.
"Thank you to all of the public safety partners that helped tranquilize the bear roaming Yuba City streets last night. Yuba City Police, Yuba City Fire, California Fish & Game, Sutter County K9 and a local trapper all played a key role."
