YUBA CITY, Calif. — A man involved in a Yuba City vehicle chase is still being sought by police after he jumped into a river while running away.
Authorities said they had tried doing a stop on a vehicle for several traffic violations in the area of Percy Avenue and B Street on May 25, around 10 p.m.
Police gave chase to the vehicle when it didn't yield. Authorities said the vehicle went down Second Street and into the Yuba City Boat Ramp parking lot.
The driver ended up running on foot after colliding with a parking curb around the boat dock area; the collision almost had the vehicle go over the embankment and down to the river next to a boat ramp.
Authorities said that the driver jumped into the river from the docks and drifted downstream.
More officers came to the area and tried to help find the man, who was last seen about 100 yards south of the boat ramp and about 10 yards from shore.
Multiple agencies helped search the shoreline, including a local fisherman who helped with his boat and spotlights.
Police are still trying to identify the man while the Sutter County Sheriff's Department Boat Patrol is continuing a search during the day for him.
Anyone with information on the incident can contact the Yuba City Police Department at 530-822-4661.
