Sac State crushes Nicholls State for first win of the season | HIGHLIGHTS

The Hornets cruised to a 34-7 victory in their home opener.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State beat Nicholls State for its first win of the season Saturday night in Sacramento.

Sacramento State scored first and never looked back, winning 34-7.

The Hornets were led by Carson Conklin's 264 passing yards and Elijah Tau-Tolliver's 111 rushing yards.  Conklin threw for two touchdowns and Tau-Tolliver ran for one. Danny Scuderp had four catches for 102 yards and a touchdown.

The Hornets travel to Commerce, Texas next week to take on Texas A&M Commerce.

The Sacramento State Hornets will take on the Nicholls State Colonels on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. in Sacramento.  It's the home opener for the Hornets.

Both teams are looking to get their first win of the season. Sac State has lost two games against FBS schools San Jose State and Fresno State but played well enough to be highly ranked in the polls.  

The Hornets are ranked #11 in both the Stats Perform Top 25 Poll and the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll. Nicholls State is ranked #24 Stats Perform Top 25 Poll and #23 in the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll

Nicholls State put up two first-half touchdowns last week against LSU.

Sac State is playing a Southland conference team that finished in first place in the 2023 season. Last week the Hornets took on Fresno State Bulldogs and lost 46-30. 

Sac State is led by quarterback Kaiden Bennett, who is coming off a strong game against the Bulldogs where he threw a 78-yard-catch-and-run to Jared Gibson, the longest pass play in their Hornet careers. 

Sac State could have its hands full with Nicholls State quarterback Pat McQuaide, who had a solid game against LSU last weekend, completing 12 of 16 for 113 yards.
