55th Annual Hangtown Motocross Classic returns to Prairie City

"These are the world's best motorcycle racers on the planet," said Bob Masser, Hangtown Motocross Director.

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. — What's dangerously fast, incredibly entertaining and does things that makes you ask yourself "how in the heck did they do that?" It's the annual Hangtown Motocross Classic and it's speeding through Rancho Cordova this weekend.

For over five decades, this annual event has brought plenty of thrills to fans of motocross.

"These are the world's best motorcycle racers on the planet," said Bob Masser, Hangtown Motocross Director. "This motocross racing is the number one most physically demanding sport there is."

This event showcases veteran racers, and young racers like 9 year old Maverick who's looking forward to demonstrating his skills this weekend.

"Going fast and flying in the air," said Maverick Gresham-Lewis.

Many of the racers are from Northern California, and some of them are here to remind everyone how tough this sports is.

"It's hard to convey how hard this sport is," said Anthony Gosalves from Ione. "A lot of people, football players, say 'all you do is sit down and push the grid.' It's so much more than that. You really have to ride a bike to understand how hard it is."

While motocross continues to be a male-dominated sport, certain women like sisters Kiera and Fallon Selig are hoping to make a name for themselves.

"I just try my hardest because I'm having a competition with everyone else," said Keira Selig.

"It scared me," said Fallon Selig. "But then I started trying, and I got over my fear of riding dirt bikes."

Becoming a professional motocross racer may not be for everyone, but to those brave enough to pursue this sport, here's a message for you:

"All the people who tell you, you can't do this. All the naysayers. Use that as fuel to help you achieve that," said Clayton Tucker, professional racer from Auburn. "And to silence the naysayers and the people who don't believe in you."

The event runs through Saturday and will take place at the Prairie City SVRA.
