'Brings people together': Sacramento fans, businesses make final preparations before Super Bowl Sunday

Sports bars across the region are calling in extra bodies to make sure things run smoothly on what they say may be "something we haven't seen before."

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Hype is building as San Francisco 49ers faithful fans around the world get ready to watch their team face off against the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday.

In Sacramento, many families are preparing to have gatherings. Others are opting for a good time at a watch party out of the house.

Heading into "Super Sunday," Niners fans are feeling optimistic about the team’s chances of adding another trophy to the case.

"Real positive. I think we are going to take it," said Einstein Gutierrez, a 49ers fan.

"You just got to keep the faith, keep confidence and make it happen," said Tim Hennessy, a 49ers fan.

While most of the attention will be on the field, as it's a rematch between the teams from 2020, eyes will also be on what's in the stands as some are anticipating Taylor Swift to be rooting on the Kansas City Chiefs.

For diehard 49ers fan Christopher Souza, he says he's been slowly building up to this moment as Sundays' game means something special.

"I am totally pumped up for tomorrow," said Souza. "It brings people together. My dad has been a 49ers fan for a while. He saw the Super Bowl wins: Joe Montana, Steve Young and Jerry Rice. It is incredible to watch them."

Souza and other fans are excited to create new memories with this year’s 49ers team.

Sports bars around the region, like Stoney’s Rockin Rodeo on Del Paso Blvd in Old North Sacramento, are looking forward to huge crowds Sunday.

"We are kind of prepared, but we are going to sell probably four times the amount of food we normally sell," said Kevin Lutz, owner of Stoney’s Rockin Rodeo. "We are really staffing up in the kitchen and staffing up in different areas than we are used to."

Lutz says there will be triple the normal amount of staff as he and many other businesses prepare for a busy day.

"Last year was the 49ers faithful’s first event here for the NFC Championship and that was a packed house. But this is going to be double. I have a feeling is going to be something we have not seen before,” said Lutz.

For fans like Souza, they're hoping this year is a return to the legacy of Super Bowl glory, 29 years in the making.

"100% being faithful, trusting the process being positive, knowing that things are going to work out 100%," said Souza.
