Oregon Ducks honor Sacramento teammate in rival matchup game year after death

The team honored him by adding a spider web with the number four and “4 SPENCE, 4 EVER" to their gloves and arm sleeves.

OREGON CITY, Ore. — The Oregon Ducks faced their state rival Oregon State Friday and honored their teammate Spencer Webb, a former Christian Brothers High School football player who died in an accident last year.

Webb, originally from Solano County, transferred to Christian Brothers for his junior year and graduated in the spring of 2018 as a celebrated student athlete. He committed to the University of Oregon with a full ride scholarship on national signing day earlier that year.

The 22-year-old fell and hit his head near Triangle Lake in Eugene, Oregon July 13, 2022. The fall appeared to be accidental and there was no evidence of foul play, the Lane County Sheriff's Office said.

The team honored him by adding a spider web with the number four to their gloves, signaling Webb's name and the number he was going to take for the 2022 season.

Along with his number and the web, players' gloves and arm sleeves read “4 SPENCE, 4 EVER."

The Ducks won 31-7 against Oregon State, dedicating the game to Webb and his family who attended the game

Webb was a junior at the University of Oregon. In three seasons with the Ducks as a tight end, he had 31 catches for 296 yards and four touchdowns.
