MARYSVILLE, Calif. — The remainder of Yuba College’s 2024 football season is officially scrapped.
The school confirmed Monday to ABC10 that the remainder of its season has been canceled amid coaching changes and player availability.
"After careful consideration and extensive discussions with our coaching staff, student athletes and college leadership, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the remainder of this year's football season, the school wrote in a statement. "This was not a choice we made lightly, and we understand the deep disappointment this news will bring. Our top priority is the health and safety of our student-athletes. Despite our best efforts to navigate coaching changes and limited player availability, this is the most responsible decision to protect everyone involved."
The team’s last two games were scheduled for Friday against Chabot College in Hayward and Nov. 23 at home against Los Medanos College.
The decision to terminate the season early comes weeks after first-year coach Tim Mulvehill resigned. According to The Appeal-Democrat in Marysville, the team was experiencing a winless season at the time of Mulvehill’s resignation, but any specific reason for his resignation remains unclear.
