SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento Kings have drafted Providence guard Devin Carter 13th overall in the NBA draft.
Carter averaged 19.7 points and 8.7 rebounds in his last season. He spent two years with Providence after transferring from South Carolina.
Carter is 6'3" with a massive wingspan and vertical leap that helped him jump from 13 points to 19.7 points last season. He has a high basketball IQ, hard-nosed defender and an excellent rebounder for a guard.
He's the son of former NBA player Anthony Carter and was the Big East player of the year in a league that included Clingan and Castle.
“At the end of the day, Devin’s somebody very high up on our board that we really weren’t expecting to be there at 13. When he was there, we decided to pick him and add him to our group,” said Kings general manager Monte McNair.
McNair said Carter has a lot of intangibles on and off the court, but he also has the ability to play on both ends of the court.
Prior to the draft, the Sacramento Kings were reportedly linked to a potential trade for Chicago Bulls guard Alex Caruso that involved the 13th pick, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Caruso, a two-time All-Defensive guard, ultimately went to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a trade for guard Josh Giddy.
However, the Kings still managed to secure sharpshooter Malik Monk, runner up for Sixth Man of the Year. Monk intends to sign a four-year $78 million deal.
